About Tim Geoffrion
My Coaching Career Was Born Out Of My Passion For Helping People Grow
Before I went into the world of coaching, I worked for 15 years as an investor and banker on Wall Street. I began my career at JP Morgan in New York before transitioning to several large private equity firms, where I made investments across many different sectors of the economy. During that time, I served on the boards of over a dozen companies and played the role of supporter, listener, and advisor to many CEOs and executive management teams.
Throughout my career, what consistently brought me the most joy was helping other people grow. I loved interviewing potential candidates and sought out chances to mentor new hires. I enjoyed managing teams at every firm I worked at. As an investor and advisor, I relished the opportunity to work closely with executives—lending them an ear, offering concrete help, and even giving advice when they needed it.
At a certain point, I realized that helping other people accomplish their goals and live out their dreams was my number-one source of fulfillment in life. As a result, I decided to dedicate my career to doing so. Today, in addition to investing in small businesses, I am a certified leadership coach who helps people manage the internal struggles that are preventing them from achieving their business goals and finding fulfillment in life.
I Specialize In Coaching Executives, CEOs, And Business Owners
Because of my background in the business world, I work best with business people and their families. I’m passionate about helping leaders understand that deepening their relationship with themselves will have a transformative impact on their businesses and their relationships with others. When we are in tune with our emotions and connected to every part of ourselves, it becomes much easier to navigate our daily challenges and live more confidently and authentically. This is the philosophy that underscores my approach to coaching.
When I first began my practice, I was mostly focused on helping people with the business side of their problems. Over time, however, I quickly realized that the biggest business transformations often result from dealing with a client’s personal psychology. This inspired me to go back and get several years of training in various therapeutic approaches, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Non-Violent Communication (NVC), and Relational Life Therapy (RLT).
Thanks to my therapeutic trainings and business background, I bring a rare mix of skills into my practice. I can help people with very concrete financial or strategic tasks, such as navigating the process of selling or starting a business, and I can also help them work through leadership issues and difficult relationships with partners and teams. Additionally, I often provide coaching for couples and families who are looking to improve their marriage or relationships. I’m able to offer support for individuals, couples, and families navigating the challenges of business and life.
My Approach To The Healing Process Is Rooted In The Wisdom Of IFS
The way I coach is the same way I try to live my life. I seek to listen more than I speak, since I believe that asking the right questions is better than giving good advice. I also seek to help people understand that it’s okay to look to others for guidance and support. We are stronger when we cultivate strong communities and rely on the wisdom of others instead of our own power. This can help us develop our courage and learn not to run away from difficult conversations or choices.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) and its sister model for couples, Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO), form the cornerstone of my approach to coaching. These modalities are all about transforming a client’s relationship with others by helping them develop a more integrated and loving relationship with every part of themselves. When clients learn to work with (instead of against) the wounded and protective parts of themselves, it’s much easier to live from a place of greater ease, wisdom, confidence, and joy.
Who I Am Outside Of My Coaching Practice
I am an avid outdoorsman and photographer who has been to every national park in the US. I’ve photographed and written extensively about my experiences in the parks, and I am currently working on a coffee table book and a memoir about them (I was recently interviewed about these experiences on a podcast). I’ve also spent nearly two months wilderness camping in Alaska and I once walked all 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago with my family.
My wife is a therapist, yoga teacher, and meditation teacher. She and I are doting parents and loving pet owners. Though we don’t spend as much time in the wilderness as we did before we had kids, we generally try to spend as much time outside as possible.
In addition to my coaching work, I invest in small businesses across America and have led seminars at business schools and universities around the US on the subjects of investment banking and private equity. I’ve led seminars at Harvard Business School, Columbia Business School, and many other places. Since I began coaching in 2019, I’ve partnered with many different companies as an investor and advisor in industries as varied as biotech, manufacturing, online education, and digital advertising.
Between my business experience and expertise as an executive and leadership coach, I am confident that I can help you improve your relationship with yourself, your business, and your loved ones. I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey!
